Over the years, there have been three generations of RV Waste Water Treatment products.

First Generation RV Waste Water Treatment

The First Generation Products used a variety of Dangerous Chemicals, including formaldehyde, embalming fluids and pesticides. Most First Generation RV Waste Water Treatment Products required 8 ounces of product per 40 gallon tank. The chemicals in many of these products were also harmful to septic and waste water treatment systems that received RV Waste Water.

Second Generation RV Waste Water Treatment

2. Second Generation Products used many of the first generation chemicals, but added caustic chemicals to their arsenal. Second generation RV Waste Water Treatment Products generally required 4 ounces per 40 gallon tank.

These second generation products still created havoc on the Septic or Waste Water Treatment Systems receiving RV Waste Water. They did a better job of breaking down tissue and solids, but many still contained bacteria killing chemicals and strong deodorizer's.

Third Generation RV Waste Water Treatment

Today's Third Generation RV Waste Water Treatment Products use Mother Nature's Bacterial Digestion Process. In this process, Friendly Bacteria digest the organic wastes in RV Waste Water and turn it into carbon dioxide and water. They eliminate RV Waste Water Problems at the source.

The best Bacterial Digestant Products are designed to accelerate the digestion of organic material while maintaining no environmental impact. They are also certified as a Green Product by one or more Green Certification Organizations.

5 Groups Of RV Waste Water Treatment Products

1. Bacterial Digestant RV Waste Water Treatments

Bacterial Digestant Products can reduce the operating costs and time RV owners spend on maintaining their Holding Tanks. They digest and eliminate RV Waste Water problems

2. Chemical RV Waste Water Treatments

Most Chemical RV Holding Tank Treatment products control RV Holding Tank Problems with Harsh Chemicals. Many of these chemicals, like Formaldehyde, are known carcinogens that are known to be dangerous to humans, plants, animals, septic tanks and sewage treatment facilities receiving RV Waste Water.

3. Enzymatic RV Waste Water Treatments

Enzymatic Treatments use synthetically created Enzymes. Synthetic Enzymes are capable of breaking down organic matter but cannot multiply and do not eliminate the source causing the problem. They need beneficial bacteria to digest the organic matter.

Unfortunately, these Enzymatic Treatment products may also contain fragrances and harsh chemicals. These chemicals can harm or kill beneficial bacteria, negating the potential benefit of using enzymes.

4. Nutrient Enhancement RV Holding Tank Waste Water

Nutrient enhancement of RV Waste Water is positive sounding phrase. However,  under normal conditions, RV Waste Water already contains plenty of material ready to be broken down into nutrients. That is as long as the natural bacteria are healthy and there is no nutrient overload.

Excessive amounts of nutrients entering lakes, rivers and the sea can lead to a significant increase in water pollution problems which decrease Water Quality. Reductions in Water Quality can lead to decrease in fish productivity and increase the potential for harmful algae blooms. Therefore, Nutrient Enhancement Products are often not beneficial to our environment.

5/ Home Made RV Waste Water Treatments

Many home made RV Waste Water Treatments, also called "RV Holding Tank Home Brews" are mixtures consisting of household cleaners and disinfectants. These "Home Brews" often contain Dangerous Chemicals that can retard or kill Beneficial Bacteria in your RV Holding Tanks.

The Washington State Department of Transportation states that the use of "Home Brews" in RV Holding Tanks should be avoided. The claim that the proportions of each ingredient is not established and the quantities required to control odors and create sufficient biological activity are unproven.

They also state that some "Home Brews" can cause damage to toilet seals and valves. In addition, "Home Brews" may also cause a temporary shock to biological sewage treatment systems under certain conditions.
