Care And Attention Eliminates
Odor And Clogging Problems

For your Recreational Vehicle to be totally self contained, you must have an RV Black Water Holding Tank. The RV Black Water Holding Tank should contain nothing more than Human Wastes, plus a small amount environmentally friendly toilet tissue.

The Bacteria found in human waste are known as Friendly Beneficial Bacteria. These bacteria live to digest organic wastes and turning it into water and carbon dioxide

RV Black Water Holding Tank Maintenance

The Black Water Holding Tank and it's contents require proper care and regular maintenance. If not done properly, it can be dangerous to your health. Your Black Water Holding Tank can be safely managed by following a few simple rules and precautions.

Since your Black Water Holding Tank receives human wastes that already contain bacteria, Mother Nature will decompose these wastes and turn them into carbon dioxide and water. That is, with adequate ventilation and time.

However, there is a problem. Mother Nature does not always act as fast as we would like. She takes time to do her job properly. Most humans are impatient and want immediate results.

RV Holding Tank Chemical Treatments

The manufacturer's of RV Holding Tank Chemical Treatments suggest we use their RV Holding Tank Chemical Treatments to kill bacteria and over power any odors with strong deodorizer's. They tell us that there products are safe and will preserve the wastes until we can dump them into a septic or waste water System.

Today, there is a growing RV Waste Water Disposal Problem. Chemical laden RV Waste Water contains bacteria killing chemicals. Many Parks, Campgrounds and Dump Stations are now posting No RV Chemical Dumping signs at their facilities.

RV Black Water Holding Tank Odors

Foul Odors are a common Black Water Holding Tank Problem. Most odors are caused when the chemicals or deodorizer's are used and they are no longer able to overpower the cause of the odor.

Remember, most RV Holding Tank Chemical Treatments are designed to preserve wastes by killing or retarding bacterial action. To eliminate this problem, you should Buy Bacterial Digestant Treatmentsthat utilize Mother Nature's Bacterial Digestion Process to eliminate Organic Wastes.

If you are not already using these Third Generation Products, contact us or go to our RV Waste Water Treatments page.

RV Black Water Holding Tank Monitor Panels

Most Monitor Panel Inaccuracy readings are caused when wastes in your RV Black Water Holding Tank build up on the sensors or probes in the Holding Tank.

The best way to eliminate this problem is with one of several good Bacterial Digestant Treatments. The enzymes will break the offending matter down and the friendly bacteria will digest the matter and turn it into carbon dioxide and water.

Remember, the build-up on sensors probably accumulated in layers over time. To eliminate the problem will take time. The Enzymes need to break down the accumulated organic matter.

Once broken down by the Enzymes, Friendly Bacteria will digest the accumulated Organic Matter and turn it into carbon dioxide and water.

RV Black Water Holding Tank Blockages

Blockages (clogging) are usually caused by build-up of tissue and solids.

Minimize the chances of clogging by:

* Not dumping the black water tank if less than 3/4 full

* Use a Bacterial Digestant Treatment and leave 1-2 gallons of wastewater on the bottom of the Holding Tank when emptying.

* Not allowing tissue, paper, sanitary napkins or household cleaners products that contain bacteria killing chemicals in your Black Water Holding Tank.

Un-Clogging A Black Water Holding Tank

With a regular maintenance and an effective Bacterial Digestant Treatments, clogged Holding Tanks can be eliminated.

However, if your tank does become clogged, follow these steps until the clogging problem is resolved.

1. Close the tank drain valve then raise the sewer hose as high as you can and have someone else fill it with water. Have the other person reopen the drain valve and quickly place the sewer hose back in the sewer drain hole.

This should create a suction action that loosens the clog.

2. Rent or buy a manual auger and place it down the toilet and operate it until it turns freely in as many positions as possible. Fill the Holding Tank and open the drain valve again.

3. Connect a back flush valve to your drain and back flush the tank with as much water pressure as possible. You can purchase these valves from most RV parts stores or online from us in the Holding Tank Accessory section of this site.

If steps above do not work, you have 2 more options.

Option 1. Call an RV specialist who has equipment to unclog RV Holding Tanks

Option 2. Buy a quart of a quality Bacterial Digestant Product. Empty the quart into the problem tank through a toilet or drain connected to the tank.

Purchase a Clear Drain Connector, wait at least 12 hours then open the drain and watch the liquids flow. Problem solved.

RV Black Water Tank Drain Outlets

RV Waste Water Drain Outlets from the Holding Tanks usually terminate at a single drain termination assembly located at or near the rear on one side of the RV. The black water tank drain is usually three inches in diameter and the gray water is smaller in diameter.

The Holding Tanks Drain termination assembly usually comprises of one outlet for connecting to the receiving drain system and two inlets. One from the black water tank and one or more from grey water tank(s). The drain valves for each tank are normally located ahead of the outlet valve.
